Our History

Trinity Grill and Social Marketplace is more than just a store. It’s the realization of a dream cultivated over many generations. I was born at Providence Hospital and raised in this neighborhood by parents and grandparents who worked for DC government. I grew up going to the corner store to grab last minute items for my grandma to make dinner. I stopped by for snacks and Gatorade after I finished basketball practice. The corner store taught me my first lessons in math, supply and demand, profiling, and ultimately, solidified my desire to become a business owner, not just a consumer.

Opening Trinity Grill and Social Marketplace is not just about business ownership. It’s about giving back and investing in the community that raised me. The young kids growing up in this neighborhood need to know that not only is entrepreneurship possible, it’s required. Our community has a lot to offer. Our chefs (Sherard Butler and Jimmy Butler) grew up in the neighborhood and after receiving the finest culinary training abroad brought their talents home to Trinity. Our artwork is done by ( insert name), a thriving local artist. Our goal is to shine a positive light on our community and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

The phrase “Each One, Teach One” is an African proverb that originated in the United States during slavery when Africans were denied education. While we may no longer be physically enslaved, we are economically if we don’t embody the sentiment of this proverb by helping one another and sharing what we know.

Trinity Grill and Social Marketplace is more than a store. It’s a movement.
